POSITION: Machine Shop Manager
SALARY: £30k – £35k per annum

A well-established Bespoke Machining and Fabrications Manufacturer based in Sheffield requires a Machine Shop Manager due to continued growth. Specialising in manufacturing products to a wide variety of industry sectors.

The site has been expanded and new machinery has been installed.
The successful candidate will become a key member of the Management team.
This is a permanent Staff Position Monday to Friday
Hours 8:30am – 5pm – (early finish Friday)

Experienced Machine Shop Manager
Strong Mechanical Engineering qualification (HNC / HND)
Work experience ‘on the tools’ as a CNC Programmer
Experience of working on CNC Millers and Lathes, producing precision steel components
Experience leading and managing a team of machine shop engineers (ideally larger than 10)
Administrative control of holiday, sickness reporting and discipline where necessary.
Displaying a professional, acceptable attitude and image at all times.Role

Oversee, direct and monitor all day-to-day machining operations and resources
Ensure that activities run to deadlines across the machine shop.
Co-ordinate and control the daily operation of machine shop staff
Provide a safe, secure and efficient working environment.
Control, direct and monitor, machine shop resources, operations and facilities
Adhere to project/ program schedules.
Manage and direct a team of skilled and technically based individuals, through sound personnel practices such as, regular performance appraisal and development interviews
Identify training needs and coaching.
Continuously review machining procedures and capability in order to sustain the most cost effective and efficient methods and make recommendations for improvement as appropriate.
Able to accurately estimate manufacturing lead times for various components over all machining disciplines.
Monitor and report progress through weekly production meetings and notify any predicted shortfall or discrepancies against production plans.
Monitor and control the health and safety within the machine shop and surrounding areas; reporting of all incidents to the Health & Safety Manager.Additional key responsibilities

Provide strong and focused management and development for the Machining Department
Ensure output, efficiency and quality targets are achieved and continuous improvement activities executed
Provide managerial and technical support to the fast paced Machine Shop
Leading the team of machinists and controlling production levels
Improve existing manufacturing processes and support the introduction of new products and new equipment
Work with the Quality Department to drive quality improvement projects
Liaise with the Design Department with new products and parts
Provide technical support around manufacturing capabilities
Implement Lean Manufacturing and Process Improvement across the machining function of the business
Previous experience of working on both CNC and manual Turning and Milling machines along with management or supervisory experience of these skilled engineers
Proven experience in a machine shop environment producing precision components
