POSITION: Senior Engineer
SALARY: £35K – £40k per annum + Benefits

Located in Sheffield, we are currently working alongside a large manufacturing company who specialise in the design and development of high precision steel products.

Due to continued growth, the company is seeking to make a key appointment with an experienced Structural Engineer to reinforce the established team at the Sheffield site. Within the role, you will assist in the continued development of the companies global product and service portfolio to meet changes in construction methods, materials and regulations. This is a varied and demanding role requiring an innovative thinker who will challenge existing practices both in the company and the industry. Working at the cutting edge of structural product design, it is expected that you will become a respected authority in this field. Prospects for personal and career growth are excellent.

The primary purpose of the role will be to Provide technical support and engineering expertise to the Project design and management and Technical services teams to enable them to service inquiries for existing products and one off specials.

Beyond this you will be expected to contribute to the development of personnel, systems, and product development processes.

Typical duties will include:

> To aid in the development of new products and the re-engineering of existing products.
> to aid in the design or re-engineering of products to give optimal performance for lower cost.
> Prioritise development of products based on market/customer requirements.
> To liaise and support Technical Services and Project design and management staff on technical matters and issues regarding product design and use.
> Periodic review of the design practices in use including review of sent solutions to determine technical accuracy. Coordinate resolution of issues discovered leading to resolution and re-release.
> Assist with and carry out designs of special fabrications and one off applications.
> Approving and signing off (or declining) designs beyond the standard software limitations.
> Support and training for the junior engineers to develop their skills and help them towards chartership.

Within this role you will be a source of knowledge for internal technical support issues as well as external technical support issues. You will also be involved in supporting and maintaining product design software as well as being involved in product development and improvement.

For instance:
> Identify opportunities for new products and the re-engineering of existing products to reduce costs, improve, or meet new requirements. Liaise with the Product Engineering team as required and appropriate.
> Creation, coordination and validation of design methods, spreadsheets, programs and tools.
> Review of new standards for impact on our existing product range, designs and processes. Give training / revise software / create new calculations as applicable.

To be considered for this role you will need the following:
> Engineering degree or a masters in a relevant discipline (structural engineering etc)
> Chartered engineer (Desirable)
> Minimum of five years experience with structural products
> Experience in the design of masonry, concrete and steel structures
> Ability to understand structural problems and produce solutions supported by calculations, engineering principles and past experience
> Clear and practical understanding of construction methods and practice on site
> Commercial skills applied to design and development
> Experience of specifying structural and concrete products for incorporation into designs
> Ability to use AutoCAD would be desirable, as would knowledge of tools such as Excel, Tedds and so forth
